A few notes about Monday's performance.
"I'll start the show when I want to start the show..." The staff and patrons got caught off guard when Chris Isaak decided he wanted to start the show when he felt like it. So at 8:42 pm, according to our sources, he went on stage and began to play, a few minutes ahead of time, which caught everyone by surprise and left crew, support staff and the audience moving quickly to get to their seats....
'Please don't mosh pit us...." I slide into an empty seat in the back of the house to catch some of the show, and after the second or third song, Chris decided he's going into the audience. Not just the first couple of rows, but he goes all the way to the back-- then leaves and heads to the balcony (again to the surprise of our house staff, who see the doors burst open, and the artist come out, making a beeline for the balcony). Isaak sings a song or two from the balcony, and I'm sitting there, thinking, please don't leave the balcony by going over the edge and having your loyal fans catch you. Thankfully he doesn't...
"Shiney time..." I have left by this point (I had been here since 8:30 am, cut me a break...) but one of the audience members relates the next day how Isaak came out in an outfit that looked like it was made of tiny mirrors. Of course, this destroys her train of thought, and she becomes obsessed with how one cleans something like that...
Audience comments. This concert scored one of the highest numbers on our audience surveys (97% rated it excellent). Here's a few random comments from our audience surveys. Please note surveys are anonymous, so I cannot attribute them to anyone, but they are real.
"This was one of the best live shows I have ever seen. Very enjoyable, great venue, great experience..." -- we love you!
"As always, thoroughly enjoyed a top-notch show and the pleasant atmosphere of a hometown theater." -- Thanks, we think so, too
"It would have been nice if you had let patrons know that there would be an opening act and that the performance would not start at the specified time." -- Sometimes opening acts aren't known to us until very late in the process. We post the information on the website when we get it. It's always good to check the week of the show. We've also sometimes email customers, but that only covers about 60% of buyers. If we get it early enough, we put it on the ticket. Would it help if we put on the ticket 'Please check back week of show to see if there is an opening act'? We continue to find the right way to communicate this information.
" I work in the area but live about 45 minutes away. This was my first time going to the Morristown theatre and it was well worth hanging around after work hours. The theatre was very comfortable (temperature and seating) and it was a great evening." -- Morristown is easy to get to and much less stress than NYC (except when a tanker truck overturns and closes the local roads). Thanks!
