standing vs sitting

Your humble correspondent is also the person who gets to read --and respond -- to all of the survey comments that come our way. One of the most hotly contested issues is whether people should be able to get up and dance, or whether they should remain seated during performances.

Everybody comes to have a good time and everyone's good time is different. Morristown audiences are notorious for sitting on their hands -- maybe we've conditioned you all that way. Only when a performer encourages people to get up and clap do we hear people clap, and then quietly go back to sitting on their hands.

There are others though that like to get up and dance. We don't have a danceable area in the venue -- our far side aisles are the closest we've got. People dancing in the middle aisles leads to blocking others' views. And the debate rolls on.

Should people be allowed to stand by their seats and dance in their seats? Certainly there is a valid argument for this. That's the way some people like to have fun. If they are grooving along to The B-52s or Blondie or Chris Isaak, why not?

Conversely, there are those who feel that these people should sit down because they are blocking their view. Their enjoyment of the concert comes from listening. And that's a valid argument as well.

We can't have dancing sections and non-dancing sections, so we do the best we can to police the situation.

Who's right? Who's wrong? What do you think?
