A couple of notes on Tim Conway's performance...
Didn't know Tim could pull off stand-up. Well, more storytelling than stand-up, but you get so used to seeing him in sketch comedy, you forget he can spin a good yarn -- even if they were corny...
Imagine that,,,being funny without being profane. What a concept. Maybe it will catch on...
Forgot that Tim's been around a long time...McHale's Navy! Not that bad Hollywood remake in the 1990s, but the original show with Ernest Borgnine, Joe Flynn and friends from the 1960s. Now I feel old...
Not a big fan of impressionists, so I am neutral on Lousie DuArt's performance, but she was solid on stage...
Met both Tim Conway (was doing photos for the Theatre) and Chuck McCann backstage. Both are nice guys. Class. Chuck is not young, and I mentioned watching him as a youth...he comes over and goes "Give me a hug..." Chuck was the voice of Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and lots of animated characters. I promised I'd plug his website: www.chuckmccann.net.

Update on Stankey Drucker
For those of you who came to the Hanover Wind Symphony on Sunday, March 21, we'd just like to let you know that Stanly Drucker is okay. Mr. Drucker fell during a pre-concert lecture and there was a lot of concern about his well-being. Hanover Wind reports that he is fine.

Anticipating Laurie Berkner madness
Kids show on sale this morning --Laurie Berkner Band -- they are like the Beatles of the little kid pop music circuit. Lots of crazy parents demanding front row seats. Let the madness begin!
And we love the madness, as long as they don't get mad at us. Members and subscribers can buy today; public on Friday.
Years ago, I was working at a venue that had The Wiggles and that was perhaps the wildest on sale experience I ever had. People lining up at 3 am for these kids shows, lines down the street and around the corner, parents screaming how we ruined their children's lives because they were limited to 8 tickets, TV crews checking out the madness. You think there is chaos if U2 or Springsteen goes on sale -- just wait to you deal with something like The Wiggles!
So hopefully lots of chaotic fun...but be nice to our box office staff.

Yes, I am back blogging after a couple of months in the wilderness, if you call the wilderness my office and not blogging just being blown away by lots of other work...but the blog is back baby and hopefully I will be doing this again on a semi regular basis.

SpeakEasy goes down smooth
We had our first SpeakEasy this past Tuesday. An audience of 90 people filed into our Starlight Room for our first ever long-form storytelling event.
Expectations were more curious than high. We weren't quite sure what we were in for -- was it stand-up, was it comedy, was it something in between, or could it have turned into something bleak?
No worries. Hosted and assembled by our friend Maureen Langan, a Lake Hiawatha native who now resides in NYC, SpeakEasy turned into a wonderful night of shared laughs and stories.
The SpeakEasy is meant to have a feeling of This American Life or NYC's The Moth, a place where writers and comics can explore ideas beyond traditional jokes, in an intimate setting that really allows the performer and the audience to connect.
Maureen brought out an interesting array of storytellers whose works were humorous, touching, powerful and empowering. Bitter divorces, irrational fears, and even really bad poetry by Leonard Nimoy all came to head.
SpeakEasy is one of many events we hope to present in our Starlight Room, our small space in the back of the Theatre that can seat about 90 people. Up next, An Evening of Song with opera singer Jeffrey Nardone.

Snow Blows
Pins and needles. Snow is on the way -- they say, and that means lots of nervous patrons who don't want to come out, lots of contingency plans and just pure annoyance. So while people storm to the supermarkets to load up on bread for what promises to be an overnight storm, we wait to figure out what to do with the weather.
When we get the call we will post on the website. Our initial indicators are that both Masterwork Chorus and Mooseltoe want to perform and will be able to make it to the Theatre. But this is a very fluid situation, so as we find out more, we will pass it on to you.
